In my humble opinion, what is really needed is capability to store enough electrical energy so as to serve night time needs when SPV Generation is not possible. Mechanical Battery doesn't address this need.

Although, the best solution may come a little later, what can be used right now is generation of Hydrogen during day time and use of the right combination of Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Inverters.
