Since the article mentions India, I would like to also point out that in India there are 29 states and 9 union territories (areas administered by the central government of India). Out of 29 states 10 are ruled by the political party BJP and 10 my parties aligned with BJP and 9 are ruled by opposition parties.

The states ruled by the opposition parties are all the time interested in somehow or other dethroning BJP.

This factor also promotes wrong reporting of incidence of COVID-19 cases and resulting deaths.

No doubt, the extremely insufficient Health Care System of India is largely responsible for the state of affairs.
